There were three Van Goghs which is more than I've seen in one museum. We as usual spent the majority of our time in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist wings. However, it was covered and worth it since we didn't pay admission. That seemed a lot so we drove around a bit but all of the surrounding streets have a no parking ban. The museum was free, which right away is a great perk. This museum was listed in the book, "1,000 Places to See in The United States and Canada Before You Die." It definitely deserved its place. Nice area to explore, but make sure you have more time. Across the road is free gardens to walk through and a huge field next to the water that looks like that have concerts at. We will definitely come back and visit when we have more time. They had putt, putt outside (had to pay for it) that looked fun and snack and drink vendors outside. It was our first time in an art museum and we enjoyed it. I wish we would have had longer as it was so big and lots of interesting art pieces. We went up there and sure enough it was free and we walked around for a little bit viewing all the beautiful art. We parked across the street and was just planning on taking our picture outside of the museum when we ran into a local lady walking that told us the museum was free. The special Egyptian exhibit at the time cost an extra whopping $16, outrageous! Still 5 stars since it’s all free besides this exhibit and for them trying (I cannot be swindled and opted to forego that exhibit).Īfter eating at Jack Stack's down at the Country Club Plaza, we were driving to watch a Kansas City Royal's game when we passed by the museum and seen lots of people on the lawn viewing the sculptures and having picnics. The much photographed Woman I by Kooning is in this museum to my surprise and I was able to see it in the flesh. Who would thought in the middle of nowhere in Kansas City lies all these gems from Warhol, Picasso, and many more. What’s great is the museum is free as I was looking for admissions when I entered the museum. The cafe at the new building is nice and modern but for a more classical ambiance along with water fountain, have breakfast or lunch at the Atkin’s dining area though food was not too appealing to me. I casually stroll through for about 2 hrs since I have to catch a Chief’s game at 2pm but you can easily spend an entire day here if you want to read through everything. A great place to spend a day though museum is mostly ground floor with 2nd level at the Atkin’s building.
